The last week of our guiding season for 2019 was a fun time. Thanks to our guests who worked hard on the rivers and caught some great fish. As one of our guests said “the rewards are worth every cast”.

Autumn is upon us. Cooler mornings and sunny days. The stunning autumn colours make the perfect backdrop for everyone’s photos.  Steelhead and some huge Coho were landed and many more lost.

The fishing was a bit tougher this week with heavy rain and muddy water for a couple of days. However, our anglers fished several different rivers and went on a few wilderness adventures. Some nice fish were landed.

A mix of weather this week but the sun did appear and some fish came to the bank.

Avid trout anglers spent time hiking around on some of the small creeks and caught some super trout.

Steelhead, Steelhead, Steelhead……

Great catches of Steelhead this week.

Lots of familiar faces this week as our regular group arrived at the lodge. We just can’t stop these guys coming back every year!

The Skeena got better as the week went on and fishing picked up. Numerous Steelhead caught and some good sized Coho too.

Another fun week with the Hyde Boat group.

Despite a lot of rain and high water, the group still managed to land some really nice fish.

Steelhead season is now fully underway and there are salmon in the rivers too.

First time guest John had a brilliant week landing his first Steelhead and a lot of salmon too!

The Kitimat has been fishing well again this week and our anglers have had some great catches.

A great group of anglers from Sportsquest this week.

The guys didn’t waste any time hooking into monster Chum salmon on the Kitimat.  A few close to 30lb landed and many more lost! Well done to Jeremy on landing a Chinook over 40lb!

It has been a busy two weeks at the lodge with many returning guests and first time anglers joining us.

Our anglers have been having a blast fishing the Kitimat. With good runs of Pink and Chum salmon everyone has been catching a lot of fish.

There are some big Chum again this year that give you an incredible fight on the fly rod.

Congratulations to Ivie for landing his first Steelhead!!

We have had a mixed bag of weather over the last couple of weeks. Hot sunny blue sky days became cooler and rainy, but the fishing was good.

Regular guest Kermit spent some time fishing with us this spring and he is back fishing with us again. He landed a nice Chinook the other day.

The Chum and Pink salmon are now heading up the rivers so our anglers next week should see some good action.

A great first week of the season!  Our guests were out fishing the Kitimat and Skeena. New to Spey casting, Fabian hooked several large Chinook and brought a whopper to the bank. It was a fun week.

This is a great opportunity to come to fish some of the best salmon and Steelhead rivers in the world.

During August there are all 5 species of Pacific salmon and Steelhead in the rivers making a day out on the river action packed.

Our spring guiding season ended with a great few days with father and son team, Ted and Nate.  The guys fished the Kitimat and Kalum for the first three days and hooked into several Steelhead which did not make it to the bank. On the last day Nate landed three Steelhead! It just goes to show practice makes perfect!!

Sunny spring weather, stunning scenery and Steelhead – the perfect combination!

Returning guests Jon and Jeff had some good fishing. They spent a few days at our wilderness camp, and enjoyed hiking and fishing the remote rivers.

First time Steelhead fishers Doug and Jan got their skills tested this week on some powerful spring fish. As well as Steelhead there were some nice trout landed.
We look forward to their next trip and showing them some more great fishing!

A change in the weather this week with a few cloudy damp days. This got the rivers rising and the fish moving in, and provided some super Steelhead action for our guests with several hook ups a day with feisty spring Steelhead.

With the warmer spring temperatures and good fishing action, it is easy to understand why many anglers join us at this time of the year. Our guests have been out on the Kitimat river which has been fishing well for Steelhead and trout.

Marina’s first day out with guide Jake turned into a great one after she landed this super Steelhead. Marina left with some great memories and she said she will be back again.

It has been a fun first week of the spring season. Despite the frosty mornings, the days have been really sunny and warm.

After a long winter tying flies, our guests and guides were enjoying being back out on the river. Testing out different fly patterns the guys hooked into some strong spring Steelhead.

Our spring season kicks off today with blue skies and warm temps.

The snow is retreating fast and it looks as though winter is over for another year.

Here we are getting ready to go fishing this morning, not sure if we have enough flies for the day!!

After a great Steelhead season last year we are excited for the 2019 season.

Our season starts late March so it won’t be long until we are back on the water.

Kalum River Lodge guides have been out winter Steelhead fishing and are having great success.
