October 5th 2018

Autumn is a spectacular time to be here. The vibrant autumnal colours provide a stunning back drop to be fishing  in.

A day or so of rain got the fish moving and our anglers were into some good Steelhead, Coho and trout.

September 30th 2018

More clear sunny days, great weather for taking fish photos!  Everyone had a lot of fun this week on and off the river, and they have all rebooked again for next year.

September 23rd 2018

No rain to speak of this week although the forecast for next week is rain! Our friends from Argentina returned this week so we were all brushing up on our Spanish! The group fished several different rivers and had some great catches. Two brothers hooked into Steelhead at the same time and both came to the bank. A wonderful memory (and photo) to return home with. First time guest Richard landed his first ever salmon and hooked into his first ever Steelhead which decided to throw the hook right by the net. No photo but a memorable day! Father and son team, Mario and Stephen landed some nice Steelhead and Coho. Great trout fishing at this time of the year too.

September 16th 2018

Our guests have been out on the Skeena and Kitimat rivers. The water levels are low as it is a while since we have had rain. We have had a lot of fun this week at the lodge and out on the rivers. David caught a large Steelhead on the first day, Grant landed his fish of a lifetime, a Steelhead over 20lb and his buddy Daniel landed two Steelhead in an hour – his first and second ever Steelhead.  John joined us again and landed some nice fish. Stephen and Francis fished for 9 days and landed a number of salmon and Steelhead. Thank you guys for such a fun week.

Big, Bigger and Biggest!

It was the second week for our hardcore anglers who fish with us for two weeks every summer. A few new guests joined them for what turned out to be a week of big fish. David caught his largest ever Steelhead and a number of other good sized ones too. Some nice sized Coho were landed as well.

The pictures say it all…..

September 2nd 2018

The last week of August every year our long time guests start to arrive. Kalum River Lodge Veterans, Troy, Marcus and Thomas, were joined again by Kermit, David, Billy, Jim, David, Steve and Sean who have all been fishing with us for many years. It is a very special two weeks in our season when they all come to fish together again.

The guys were on fine form and the fish started to come to the bank. Several large Steelhead were landed. Marcus on day one landed a huge Steelhead and several other fish. Thomas caught his fish of a life time. A new member of the group, Willie, landed his first ever Steelhead, and it wasn’t a small one (photo on right).

Here are just a few photos from the first week….. more to follow next week.

August 25th 2018

It has been fun-filled fishing week with the Hyde group. The guys and girls join us the same week every year. It was great to see all our returning guests as well as a few new faces in the group.

This was the week of the big fish with several large Steelhead landed. Annalyse Hyde landed a 29lb Chum on her first ever Skeena River fishing trip.

Thank you again to LaMoyne, J.Ann and Matt for organizing a super week.

August 19th 2018

The fishing was a bit tough at the start of the week with hot days and low water. Mid-week the temperatures cooled down and the fishing started to warm up. Anglers landed Steelhead, Coho, Pinks, Sockeye and Chum.

Thank you to our returning guests and our first timers for such an enjoyable week. We will order some cooler weather for you next year!!

August 12th 2018

A fun filled week with many of our regular anglers and some new guests. Some days were a bit challenging with the hot weather but everyone managed to come through with some nice fish. Anglers caught a variety of salmon as well as trout and Steelhead.

Guests enjoyed floating down the Kitimat river and hooking into some huge Chum salmon. These are hard fighting fish and many battles were lost! The Skeena produced a number of fish.  Well done to Bruce Price who landed the biggest Steelhead of the week. And congratulations to Sally for a great fight with her first Skeena river Steelhead.

Thank you all for a super week and we look forward to seeing you again next year.

August 6th 2018

Another Hot Week!

The week started with clear skies and temperatures over 30 degrees celcius. Our group from Sportquest Holidays were out catching fish.

Congratulations to Michael, Derek and Bob on catching their first ever salmon. It was a memorable trip for Brain who since the age of 14 had a dream to catch a Steelhead. Now 59 years young, Brian achieved his dream at the first attempt by landing two super Steelhead in one day. There were big smiles and a few tears around the dinner table that night.

Thanks to everyone for making it such an enjoyable and fun week.

Fun in the Sun!
This last week the Steelhead fishing has been exceptional. Kalum River Lodge anglers have been catching loads of big healthy Steelhead. “This is the best early season Steelhead fishing I have seen in 31 years of guiding” says Head Guide Andrew Rushton.
As well as great Steelhead fishing on the Skeena River we have had some super catches of salmon on the Kitimat River.

With such a varied fishery there are plenty of options for everyone. Looking forward to next week’s fishing already!

July 15th 2018

Salmon, Steelhead and Trout!!
It’s been a great week for Kalum River Lodge anglers with good catches. Fish landed this week include Chinook, Chum and Pink Salmon as well as Steelhead and Cuthroat trout.

The Skeena River has large numbers of Steelhead showing up at the test fishery so we are anticipating a great season.

July 1st 2018

We have been out testing our newest Hyde Powerdrifter. It’s a super boat and a great addition to the fleet.  Looking forward to using it during our summer season!

June 18th 2018

The good weather has arrived and our summer fishing season has started!  Our guides have been out fishing on the Kitimat River and the Chinook have been biting. These fresh fish are a challenge with their fast powerful runs.  When Chinook first enter the river they can be very aggressive and are an amazing salmon to catch on the fly.

May 2018

Our spring Steelhead season is now over. Our guests caught some great Steelhead and enjoyed their time out on the rivers. With the melting snow pack the rivers are running high. We will be out fishing again later in June and look forward to the arrival of our first guests of the summer season.

April 20th 2018

We had a great week with cousins Rob and Kirk. The guys worked hard and were rewarded with several hookups with large Steelhead. Sometimes bringing them into the bank is not an easy task!

April 15th 2018

Despite the forecast for warmer days, the past week has still been fairly cool. Our anglers had some successful days but had to work hard for their fish this week. However, one lucky angler landed a 20lb and a 16lb Steelhead on his first day. Some fresh Steelhead were landed through the week as well as some nice trout.

April 8th 2018

The first week of April gave us a mix of weather with a couple of beautiful sunny days and a few days of snow, showing us that winter had not completely left yet! Our new guest Arkadiy landed four super Steelhead on his best day. This is definitely not the time for anglers who like fishing in warm weather! The forecast for next week is for warmer temperatures so it should start to feel more like spring.

Spring Steelhead

Only a couple of weeks to go until our first anglers arrive. We are looking forward to being back on the rivers catching some feisty Steelhead and trout.

2018 Is Off To A Great Start!

Even with the winter weather our guides are still out on the river enjoying some great fishing.  At this time of the year a bit of warm weather is all it takes to get us back on the water. Winter is a time of great contrasts with the white landscapes, evergreen forests, clear water and blue sky days.

We are counting the days to when the first spring Steelhead enter the coastal rivers.  By late March our first guests of the year will be exchanging stories of the fish landed during their trip. A  bonus for spring anglers are the good numbers of trout eagerly waiting to take your fly too!
